Nancy Shenton
Nancy Shenton became the bookkeeper of St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center in November of 2012. She was a teacher of Elementary and Junior High School children for twenty five years, in both public and Catholic schools. She taught all subjects, including religion, in both North and South Carolina. She was also an office manager and secretary, handling international shipments of goods to distribution centers around the country. Her education includes a B.S. from Central Connecticut State University, and Masters from Boston University.
Nancy’s greatest joy is her family; her husband, Keith, her son, Christopher, and Scooter, found as a kitten in the St. Christopher dumpster. You can find her riding her bike to work, walking the beach in search of loggerhead turtle mamas’ nests and their hatchlings when they surface, or attending mass at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She loves Friday night live music at Freshfields, world travel, and ancient archeology.
Where do you see God at St. Christopher?
I see God in the sights, sounds, smells, and embraces of the people I meet and work with, here, at St. Christopher. I am so grateful to the Lord for allowing me the privilege of working among such caring hearts. St. Christopher is my family.
What is your favorite place at St. Christopher?
My favorite place on campus is the Prayer Center. Here, I ring the bell each morning to call to prayer my fellow staffers and guests. We pray together to start the day, and keep the Lord as our focus in all we do. We pray for guests, groups, clergy, the Camp, and our own personal petitions. “Thanks”, is echoed in each person’s prayer.
What is your favorite Bible verse?
My favorite Bible verse is Psalm 23, which expresses my strong faith that God is always with me, rod and staff to comfort me. My cup truly runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord, forever.
