KAYAKING

Our most popular paddle trip, the Marsh Kayak Tour, brings guests down the slow-moving, peaceful waters of Privateer Creek and ends at a boathouse on the beach, tide-depending. Heron, dolphin, and other wildlife are common sights. The trip lasts about two hours and can be done during the day or near sunset. Anyone interested in a more robust paddle can join us on a trip to Botany Bay for shelling and shark-tooth hunting, or on our annual Deveaux Bank Bird and Kayak Tour.

PRIVATEER POINT GUIDED TOUR

A down-and-back, 3-mile hike, this guided program leads guests along the beach to the tip of Seabrook Island at Privateer Point. Dive into estuary ecology, discover creatures tucked away in exposed mudflats, and view wildlife where creek, marsh and forest meet. Energetic dolphins may even make a guest appearance!

TURTLE WALK

Through our Turtle Walk program, guests first learn the biology of South Carolina sea turtles. Thereafter, guides lead a walk along the beach searching for and potentially watching nesting loggerhead sea turtles just after dusk. This 1.5 hour program is only offered during the summer season.

BIRDWATCHING TOUR

During this program, a guide will take guests across ecosystems to observe, identify, and together learn about the many birds that call a barrier island home. Sighted species may include painted buntings, anhinga, ibises, pelicans, red-headed woodpeckers and more! Tours are available in a variety of areas and can last either 2 or 3 hours. Binoculars are available upon arrival.

TEAM-BUILDING

Our Team-Building Challenge Course consists of 8 low-ropes obstacles designed to stretch any team. Guests will be guided by one of our trained staff members, who will design each challenge to the group’s ability and will lead a brief discussion for guests to analyze their communication, group dynamic, and overall teamwork. Our program is ideal for groups of 7 to 15 people. If your party is larger, we recommend adding another group.

ORIENTEERING

Learn how to use a compass and draw on your new skills to complete one or two orienteering courses through our property. A 1 hour class, this program is good for groups hoping to learn or test their navigational skills!

CAMPING

Our remote campsite is set on the edge of a salt marsh, located at the end of a mile-long road that winds through the forest. The campsite has a rustic campfire area with flat areas for tents, and access to a dock. Be prepared for a back-country toilet (or we can set up a rental portable toilet for an additional charge).

MUD PIT

For many groups, the mud pit is a must. It gives guests a chance to get down and dirty and to cover themselves with pluff mud from head to toe. Guides walk you a mile down the beach before entering the salt marsh trail and ending in the mud pit.

WILDLIFE PROGRAMS

While participating in our seining program, students work to pull a large seine net through the surf and see what they catch. This program is available spring through fall, but not in the winter due to weather conditions. In our herpetology program, students learn about and witness firsthand different Lowcountry reptiles and amphibians through our animal ambassadors and inside Herpetarium.

GUIDED NATURE HIKES

Let our trained naturalists guide you through different barrier island ecosystems as you learn about local flora and fauna. Tours are available in a variety of areas, depending on your areas of interest. Distances range between 2 and 3.5 miles.
