Director of Food Service

St. Christopher is seeking a Director of Food Service to continue our next chapter of high quality dining and hospitality for our guests. It is an exciting time at St. Christopher, as we are preparing for a capital campaign to rebuild our Dining Hall and the team currently works out of a newly-built auxiliary kitchen in our multipurpose building that has been transformed into a temporary dining hall. The new Director will have the opportunity to continue co-creating our food values and identity as we prepare for our capital campaign, while still maintaining the highest standards for our guests.

As part of the oversight of daily dining service, the Director will work supervise and train staff, while working closely with the Director of Operations and Executive Director to provide thoughtful and constructive feedback on kitchen operations, processes, and staffing. The Director will work closely and collaboratively with the Director of the Conference Center, Director of Summer Camp, and Director of Student Services to plan for the needs of guests, campers, and staff.

In all things, the Director will emphasize God’s love and welcome to all people who would like to join us for formation, rest, restoration, and renewal.

Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in Culinary Arts or ACF certified food manager or 5 years experience in food service management

  • Valid ServSafe Manager Certification OR certification within 30 days of hire

  • A demonstrated passion for the mission of St. Christopher and the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina

  • Ability to mentor/coach a team with a diversity of skills and experiences

  • Strategic thinking and can provide thoughtful and constructive feedback on processes and systems

  • Skills in collaboration, negotiation, conflict resolution, and emotional/social intelligence

  • Hospitality for all ages, including children and youth

  • Robust dietary accommodations for guests, campers, and staff with a diversity of needs

Barrier Island Environmental Education Naturalists

Want to teach at the beach? St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center is seeking passionate, Christian teachers for our Barrier Island Environmental Education Program! BI is in partnership with the Episcopal Diocese of SC and is located on Seabrook Island, about 25 miles from Charleston. The BI program is in an area that lends itself to show the diversity of ecosystems in the Lowcountry. These areas include nearly a mile of beach, acres of salt marsh and undisturbed maritime forest, including ponds and freshwater swamp.

Position Duration: August 17, 2026 – May 14, 2027

Responsibilities: Educate students in grades K-12 in environmental-based classes on beach, salt marsh, and maritime forest ecosystems. In addition to beach, forest, and wetland ecology, topics include Herpetology, Ornithology, Orienteering, and various team-building activities. There are also opportunities to assist with animal care, maintenance of trail systems, and aid in curriculum development, and other camp responsibilities. Because St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center is a thriving Christian community, Barrier Island staff have the opportunity to participate in Bible studies and weekly chapel.

Requirements: A bachelor’s degree is required. A focus on education, biology, or environmental science is preferred but not required. An interest in teaching, communicating, and displaying God’s love with grade-school students is essential.
