The Barrier Island Environmental Education Program is a ministry of St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center, located 25 miles south of Charleston on Seabrook Island.
Since 1981, the Barrier Island Environmental Education Program has provided public and private school students in Kindergarten through 12th grades a unique opportunity to learn about and experience nature in a way that is hands-on, memorable and a whole lot of fun.
Our carefully designed program reaches more than 8,000 students each year, giving them the chance to discover the scientific world with all of their senses in an open and encouraging environment designed to see, smell, touch, hear and even taste lessons in biology, ecology, conservation, astronomy, botany, and much more. Students love it, and very often have their eyes opened to a world they have never experienced or understood before.
Barrier Island’s sessions run throughout the school year. Classes visit for a three-day or a five-day session. With more than 35 years of professional educational experience, the program and naturalist staff have earned the approval and admiration of educators throughout the Southeast. Will your students be among those who share in this amazing experience?
